RoHS/WEEE Compliance

Bird Technologies RoHS-WEEE Compliance

Bird Technologies Group is committed to provide its worldwide customers with products that are environmentally compatible while also meeting our commitment to quality, performance, and reliability.

We are complying with the European RoHS Directive and China RoHS regulations. Bird also is compliant with the European Community directive 2002/96/EC (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment, WEEE) in respect to products sold within the European Union. This marking has been added to electronic products that are marked with the CE Mark.

What is RoHS?

What is WEEE?

Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (ROHS) became European Law in 2003. RoHS restricts the use of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) in electronic equipment. These materials are also restricted per the China RoHS regulations.

In 2007 China’s RoHS regulations became law, this includes the same substances but the rules for compliance are different.

Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is the European Community directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment which, together with the RoHS Directive, became European Law in 2003, setting collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods. The scope is to prevent the generation of electrical and electronic waste and to promote reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery in order to reduce the quantity of such waste to be eliminated, whilst also improving the environmental performance of economic operators involved in its treatment.

TX RX Systems Brand Products

Although in the European RoHS Directive, Monitoring and Control Instruments is not included within the scope of the RoHS Directive per Article 2 and Annex 1A, it is Birds objective to produce products that are materially compliant. Birds Monitoring and Control Instruments that are materially compliant will be marked accordingly.

The European RoHS Directive allows for specific exemptions from the requirements of Article 4(1) per the Annex. The following exemptions apply to many of our products.

  1. Exemption 1 — Mercury in compact florescent lamps not exceeding 5 mg per lamp.

Some LCD displays used in our product have a backlight that may contain low levels of mercury. These applications are exempt from the directive.

  2. Exemption 6 – Lead as an alloying element in steel containing up to 0.35% lead by weight, aluminum containing up to 0.4% lead by weight and as a copper alloy containing up to 4% by weight.

Because of their good electrical and RF properties we use many of the copper alloys that use up to 4% lead.

For the China RoHS all products are marked with the 50 year use life and have a sheet that identifies the hazardous materials that the product contains.

The majority of TX RX products can be ordered European or China RoHS compliant through special request.
Please contact factory to verify the RoHS status of the exact model numbers for your application.

The following products are currently not available as European Union RoHS compliant:

  • Any product (mostly VHF Signal Boosters) using crystal filters, because crystals naturally contain lead
  • All PIM-Rated antennas
  • All the legacy (non-SBII) signal boosters
  • All the 700, 800, and 900 MHz SBII signal boosters
  • All battery-backup options for signal boosters
  • Some of the 800, 900 MHz Receive Multicouplers (12 ports or more)
